  • By Life Or By Death

    $16.99

One of the most incredible missionary stories of the 20th century.

As a young boy Andrew Montonera stumbled upon a cabinet of books in his grandparents’ house. He was captivated by what he discovered–the library of his distant relatives, John and Betty. By Life or by Death shares the story of these two remarkable people–inspirations of contagious joy and kingdom-focused lives.

John Cornelius Stam and Elisabeth Alden “Betty” Scott met at Moody Bible Institute in fall 1929. A few years later, their paths crossed again–this time in China. The two were united in marriage and in their love for the Chinese people.

Using family scrapbooks and unpublished sources, Montonera takes a fresh look at a famous story–how two missionaries and their baby were kidnapped by Chinese soldiers and ransomed. Montonera recounts the courage and martyrdom of the Stams, as well as the succeeding miraculous tale that captured the world’s attention.

The Stams’ lives were cut short, but their faithfulness continues to impact Christianity in China today. By Life or by Death looks at the legacy of the Stams, including new testimonies of those shaped by their commitment to the gospel.

Shortly before his death, John Stam mailed a letter to the mission authorities. He wrote, May God be glorified whether by life or by death (Philippians 1:20).

Discover how that prayer was answered both in the deaths and lives of John and Betty Stam.

  • Living His Story Together

    $23.99

In Living His Story: Revealing the Extraordinary Love of God in Ordinary Ways, Hannah Steele wrote with an infectious understanding of her subject’ (Mark Oakley, Church Times). Now she turns her attention to mission and evangelism that is not only for individuals but for the whole local church. Offering an inspiring mandate for the church to see itself as a missionary community, Hannah considers the practical outworkings of that identity through biblical material and real-life stories from churches on the front line.

Being His Story isn’t an argument for a particular model of church (plant or parish for example) but a simple yet exciting exploration of what can happen when two or three are gathered together, empowered by the Spirit and seeking to be good news in the world today. It covers contemporary missional themes, such as hospitality, presence, diversity and spoken witness and draws on contemporary scholarship and ideas, while being eminently suitable for study in home groups.

  • Bread And Bibles

When I was at work in the City Relief Society, before the fire, I used to go to a poor sinner with the Bible in one hand and a loaf of bread in the other. -D. L. Moody

Dwight Lyman Moody was a preacher, pastor, and visionary whose impact is still felt around the world. He was a servant to poor and immigrant communities, an evangelist who traveled the globe, and a champion of Christian education–Moody founded Moody Publishers and he started three schools, including Moody Bible Institute, which has trained more missionaries than any other single institution in the United States. • These Strange Ashes

    $29.99

In this deeply personal account of her first year as a missionary, Elisabeth Elliot shares what it was like to work in the jungles of Ecuador with a small group of women, bringing the Word of God to the indigenous tribe that martyred her husband. With fascinating detail, she captures the stark realities of life among these complex people and reflects upon the “strange ashes” that can result when an act of obedience is passed through the fires of God’s perfect–yet mysterious–will.

These Strange Ashes is more than a remarkable sharing of a year in the life of a Christian missionary; it is a reflection on the great questions of life and a memorable testimony to the realities of authentic Christian commitment. First published nearly 40 years ago, this classic is sure to inspire a new generation to find and follow God’s will–wherever it leads them.

  • Impacting Eternity : A Practitioner’s Guide For Sustained Movement Expansio

    $14.99

Growing from 4 to 400 Generations

We’ve heard stories about disciple-making movements that are sweeping the globe, transforming the way people are coming to Christ in places like Asia, western Africa, and South America. We’ve learned specific principles and strategies to encourage such movements. If only we had a book that combined empirical research with established missiological practice. Now we do.

Impacting Eternity builds on multi-dimensional research performed over a period of years. Its findings have been refined in practice within three different movements that the author helped to facilitate. Robert Reach gives seven concrete, root principles that bear kingdom fruit. This is not merely information that might work; it has proven effective in the trenches of movement life resulting in miraculous growth. Reach has found that his 5-5-5 methodology is very effective, but instead of promoting it, he helps readers think about the underlying leadership dynamics that spark and sustain a movement.

We cannot see the Spirit, but we see his work in our lives. In the same way, the visible leaves and fruit of a movement have many hidden roots. And so, we must pay attention. This book can help you learn to recognize and follow God’s Spirit as he accomplishes his purposes among the nations.

  • Grit To Stay Grace To Go

    $17.99

Don’t Leave Too Soon, Don’t Stay Too Long

Staying isn’t always good and leaving isn’t always bad. Both require grit and grace. Cross-cultural ministry presents us with many difficulties like transitions, loneliness, messy relationships, and the desire to escape. The lies we believe tempt us to leave our work too soon. But nothing tests our resolve to stay like seeing others go.Grit to Stay Grace to Go normalizes the challenges of ministry through honest and humorous stories from the authors’ own lives as well as testimonies from many other workers. The point is to help cross-cultural workers not just to stay, but to stay well, by countering lies with truth. This workbook provides thoughtful reflection questions, practical action steps, and suggested prayers. It encourages stayers to process their grief, guilt, and relief when saying goodbye to goers. In this way, they can move forward with forgiveness and humility and truly bless the departing ones. Those considering leaving will find poignant questions and spiritual practices to help them make an intentional, not reactive, decision. Are you considering leaving the field? Or do you know someone who is? Work through this book by yourself or with others. You will gain wisdom to help workers develop grit and grace to stay or go.

  • Facing Fear: : The Journey To Mature Courage In Risk And Persecution

    $26.99

    Developing an Anti-Fragile Faith

Violence against Christ-followers is increasing globally. The lived reality for many Christians involves daily threats, risks, and persecution. When evil casts its shadow on us, and we’re tempted to despair, it is vital to develop anti-fragile faith and the guts to endure in hard places.

Facing Fear is a practical guide for believers who long to have bold, mature courage. Cultivating this courage is necessary to endure wisely for Christ’s sake. Anna Hampton integrates exegesis and psychology to explain how humans respond to fear and how the Holy Spirit enables us to make a different choice than our normal. Learning to face our fears, name them, and manage them requires learning specific steps to reduce their impact on us.

This book is a pastoral and practical resource for those working to advance the gospel in the world’s most dangerous places. You’ll gain valuable skills to become “shrewd as a serpent” and stand with unshakable faith in unsafe situations. Risk can be an offering of worship. Jesus is worthy of whatever pain you go through, whatever loss you experience, and whatever fears you have.

  • Fulfilling Our Mission

    $16.99

Fulfilling our Mission by noted international evangelist Reinhard Bonnke explores truths, stories, and principles from the Bible that show how to effectively reach out to others with the love of God and the salvation of Jesus Christ. This book builds upon Bonnke’s previous book, Hell Empty, Heaven Full, demonstrating God’s great compassion for the world.

Tens of millions of people came to know Christ through Bonnke’s ministry. As he explains, in evangelism, there is no “right” way of doing things but only right principles, principles that can be drawn from the New Testament.

In Scripture, God equipped the least likely individuals for His providential purposes. He wants each one of us to participate in reaching the world because He deeply loves all people. Where the Holy Spirit provides the tiniest spark, a start can be made. You cannot learn to play the piano better by hearing more lectures about piano-playing techniques. You have to put your fingers on the keys. Evangelism is not a sit-down-and-learn topic alone. It is a hands-on activity, a demand, a challenge, a commission, and a consuming passion!

From biblical times to today, believers have claimed God’s promises and moved forward in faith. The Word, not some subjective impulse, is our authority for action and will bring about success in outreach that causes men, women, and children to know Christ and be brought into the eternal kingdom of God.

Today, Jesus calls us to go into all the world and make disciples. How will we respond? God not only accompanies those who are go-getters, but He also makes and equips them. With the Word as our guide, let us begin a serious and determined effort to fulfill the commission Jesus us gave to reach everyone in the world with the message of His salvation and usher in His return!

    $18.99

How does God get the Word out to a lost and dying world?

This book will inspire you to see yourself as a tool for God’s kingdom. God has a ministry for everyone, and He will use what you make available to Him.

Missionary-preacher David Grant’s name has become synonymous in the Assemblies of God with riveting storytelling that makes listeners laugh one minute and cry the next. Very human stories of a kid growing up in Southern parsonages mix with deeply moving stories that expose great human need around the world and the great heart of our compassionate God who cares for the neediest and exploited.

In Born to Give, Grant tells his own riveting story, of a young boy who gave God his life in an offering pan at the invitation of a legendary missionary and became a missionary to the nations, ministering throughout Southern Asia, Europe, and Asia Pacific, and to victims of sexual slavery. Inspiring both laughter and tears, Born to Give is a refreshing and real story that will lead readers to place their own lives and resources in God’s miracle-working hands and engage with Him to bring hope in a broken, unjust world.

Each devotion begins with a suggested Scripture passage to review, a devotional story, and a prayer. Melissa brings her own personal experience as a former missionary and current short-term mission team leader within each daily reflection. A helpful timeline of things your team needs to do before departure is included in the index. This booklet is the perfect tool for your short-term team to read the month preceding your mission trip!

  • Advanced Missiology : How To Study Missions Incredible And Useful Ways

    $61.00

Advanced Missiology draws the connections between the theory and practice of missions. Using the metaphor of a river, the book shows how theories “”upstream”” such as theology, education, anthropology, community development, and history have exerted an influence on missiology (and missiology, in turn, has gone back upstream to influence those disciplines). What causes these disciplines to converge in missiology is the goal of making disciples across cultures. Whereas missiologists are not always explicit about how their abstract theories actually relate to the task of making disciples across cultures, each chapter in Advanced Missiology shows how numerous theories, sub-fields, models, and strategies of missiology ultimately facilitate the Great Commission. The book argues that by using interdisciplinarity for this fundamental purpose, missiological studies will be more credible and useful. • Ministering In Patronage Cultures

    $22.99

Patronage governs many relationships in Majority World cultures. But regrettably, Western theologians and missionaries rarely notice this prominent cultural reality.

Patronage–a reciprocal relationship between social unequals–is a central part of global cultures and the biblical story of God’s mission. Misunderstanding patronage creates problems not only for Westerners ministering in other cultures, but also for contemporary people reading the Bible. If we ignore the concepts of patronage in biblical cultures, we will misinterpret Yahweh’s relationship with Israel and miss some of the meaning in Jesus’ parables and Paul’s letters. Understanding patronage will illumine theological concepts such as faith, grace, and salvation. Jayson Georges, coauthor of Ministering in Honor-Shame Cultures, now brings his ministry experience and biblical insights to bear on the topic of patronage. With sections on cultural issues, biblical models, theological concepts, and missional implications, this resource will not only serve ministry practitioners but anyone who studies Scripture and worships God.

  • Holy Ambition : To Preach Where Christ Has Not Been Named – Second Revised (Revi

    $12.99

This vision of, and invitation to, the work of global missions challenges Christians everywhere to cultivate a holy ambition to preach Christ where he has not yet been named.

The apostle Paul had a holy ambition: to preach the gospel to peoples who had never heard. He ached to proclaim Jesus where he had not yet been named. So today, missionaries cross cultures, learn languages, and pour out their lives in word and deed to break through thousands of years of darkness and the reign of Satan over a people who do not know the King of kings and the Savior of the world. Missionaries go to, and minister among, peoples who otherwise have little to no access to the saving news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

And since Jesus’s Great Commission to make disciples of all nations is still in effect–and since there are thousands of peoples today who have never heard of him–every church should pray that God would not only make all of us evangelists among our own people, but also that he would raise up from among us missionaries to take the gospel where it has never gone before.

Note to the Second Revised Edition: This book was first released in 2011. Since then, John Piper has continued to preach and write about missions. So, to prepare this Second Revised Edition, Desiring God added four chapters of new material, removed about a third of the original, and freshly edited and organized the remainder.

  • World Mission : Theology, Strategy, And Current Issues

    $24.99

World missions needs a fully biblical ethos.

This is the contention of the editors of and contributors to World Mission, a series of essays aimed at reforming popular approaches to missions.

In the first set of essays, contributors develop a biblical theology of world missions from both the Old and New Testaments, arguing that the theology of each must stand in the foreground of missions, not recede into the background. In the second, they unfold the Great Commission in sequence, detailing how it determines the biblical strategy of all mission enterprises. Finally, they treat current issues in world missions from the perspective of the sufficiency of Scripture.

Altogether, this book aims to reform missions to be thoroughly – not just foundationally – biblical, a needed correction even among the sincerest missionaries.

  • Growing Up Yanomamo Today

    $21.95

Following in his parents’ footsteps, “Growing Up Yanomamo Today: By Faith, Not by Sight” is the continuing story of Mike Dawson who continues his missionary work with the Yanomamo people in the jungles of Venezuela despite the hardships presented under a socialistic dictator.

Dawson’s love for the Yanomamo people is clearly seen through the many stories in this sequel to Growing Up Yanomamo. Whether hunting and fishing together or sending out evangelistic teams of indigenous believers to remote parts of the rainforest, Dawson descriptions will provide a front-row seat to this work without the mosquitos or fear of malaria. The medical aspect of the work has been crippled by the lack of air support which was taken away by the government. Indeed, Dawson’s first wife and daughter died from malaria as has too many of the Yanomamo people when being able to get to medical support might have saved them.

Ex-witchdoctors and other tribal members also share stories in their own words. Readers will be surprised to find a dark connection between shamen’s demons and Pokemon, and should take heed. Haunted houses, also addressed by an ex-witchdoctor, will be a cause for concern after reading his insight. Readers will gain knowledge of what it must be liked to be indwelt with demons controlling one’s life. But the good news is that there have been more conversions to the gospel of Jesus Christ in the last ten years than in the previous fifty years. This is a message of hope, with a future. The demons offer me neither hope nor a future. – witchdoctor

Insects and wild animals are part of the daily life of a missionary in the jungle, as is travelling by river in all sorts of weather. Dawson shares how God provides safety, food, and even fuel which is scarce in this oil rich county. God has a plan for this country, this ministry, and our precious Yanomamo and the many other tribes in Amazonas State that have been abandoned, says Dawson.

  • Mission In Action

    $30.99

Missional ethics is concerned with the way in which the believing community’s behavior is, in and of itself, a witness to the wisdom and goodness of God. The debate surrounding the relationship between word and deed, or evangelism and social action, remains a significant issue within evangelical missiology. Martin Salter seeks to address one aspect of that debate – namely, the missional significance of ethics – by conducting detailed exegesis of key biblical texts. He argues that biblical ethics is neither entirely separate from, nor merely preparatory for, mission – rather, it is an integral part of the church’s mission. Missional ethics is a theme that arises from the biblical texts and is not imposed on them. The church as both organism and institution embody a missional ethic that includes worship, justice, and charity. Word and deed belong together as an integral whole. Salter’s valuable study concludes by offering a definition of missional ethics.

Jesus is always on the move. If we follow Him, where will we end up? An expert on nomadic peoples, Malcolm Hunter shares stories from a lifetime of working in some of the world’s most remote, colorful, and neglected communities. In the early 1960’s Malcolm and his wife, Jean, arrived in Ethiopia with only their professional skills-medicine and engineering-and a desire to show God’s love to those in need. Over the next forty years God would lead them across Africa, through lush hills and scorched bush, to a dozen people groups who hadn’t heard the gospel. Wherever the Hunters went, they found that God had been there first. This book is full of astonishing true accounts of Jesus preparing the world’s least reached peoples to encounter Him. Visions, dreams, miracles, shocking customs, and even human blunders and tragedies-God used all these and more to open a way to share the good news. Honest, hopeful, and never far from laughter, Malcolm invites us to consider anew what we can expect when we follow Jesus-wherever He leads.

These crucial differences may be theological, socio-political, ethnic, or a specific variation of Islam in a context but they all shape the way we do mission. This book will help you discover Islam as a lived experience in various settings and equip you to engage Muslims in any context, including your own.

  • Not Dressed For The Occasion

    $17.99

“Not Dressed for the Occasion” has no specific beginning or end but is a string of observations birthed out of my walk with God. It delves into the deeply personal failures of life and honest confession of sins, as well as explores the wonderful experiences and potential we have in God. Though the book exposes the present world view that contradicts the traditional six thousand years of proven moral lessons, it also deals with the daily experiences that challenge our faith and intimacy with God, the most common thread being God Himself and the incredible revelation we enjoy because of the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. In this sense, this book is a unique view of the world from a realist Christian perspective. I have endeavoured to throw light on situations that are sometimes personal, sometimes humorous, sometimes political, and sometimes church-centred, but all from a biblical world view. The question remains: Is there hope for a world gone crazy?

“The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out” (John 1:5, MSG).

  • Evangelism In Europe

    $25.00

    VTR Publications
To think Europe represents a challenge. A challenge that may seem foolish to take up, but which corresponds to a reality. Some great personalities accepted this challenge, just after World War II. It was really necessary to do something! As regards missiology, it took more than a half century to confront the task. It is time to meet our responsibilities. The gravity and extreme complexity of this challenge call for a deep awareness of the situation in Europe, an analysis of contemporary practices, a theological reflection on the spiritual condition of Europeans, the witness of old and new churches, and the nature of the Gospel that has to be announced.

Profiting from an overview of Europe, we are at the same time aware of the particularities that each country presents. The commonalities and the differences will both shape the evangelistic approach adopted in each European country. Looking at the whole of Europe, we will also become more conscious of Europe’s specific challenges and opportunities.

This is a considerable enterprise. Many have been engaged in it recently. The Network of evangelical missiologists in French speaking Europe (REMEEF) wants to make its modest contribution. It hopes that this book will be an encouraging read and provide the tools and innovative ideas for those eager to be Daniels and Calebs for our fellow Europeans.

  • Gods Direction : Our Journey

    $42.95

This is a thrilling narrative of the remarkable journey of a medical missionary couple and the way God worked to reveal his leading to accomplish his purpose. The narrative covers a period of over fifty years, describing the great variety of work situations in exotic and sometimes dangerous places in over thirty countries. The journey portrays the couple merging to become a team that labored together in providing medical care to an astonishing variety of tribal groups, refugees, leprosy patients, and remote Thai villagers.

The story unfolds to provide insight into the way a sovereign God can open doors to ministry in a stunning variety of places in needy, unreached areas. Those doors included a hospital in rural Southeast Thailand in a previously underserved area, providing medical care to over four thousand leprosy patients from a wide area, also in Southeast Thailand. Another open door developed when Dr. Goatcher became medical director of a hundred-bed, M*A*S*H* type hospital in a camp of twenty-two thousand refugees in the jungle between Thailand and Cambodia. It was in that setting, with artillery and small arms fire a daily occurrence, that unusual manifestations of God brought thousands of people to become Christians. Concurrently with medical care, the author was responsible for providing food and other services to over forty-five thousand refugees daily in four different camps. In India, the couple trained locally selected leaders in how to provide primary health care to the villagers in a remote, tribal area. Those ministries provide insight into the way a sovereign God can open doors to ministry in an amazing array of places.

  • Gospel Comes With A House Key

    $24.99

The word hospitality often invokes a scene of a gracious, impeccably fashioned host welcoming guests into a beautifully appointed home prepared with perfectly-presented meals. However, when the Bible calls Christians to be hospitable, it’s calling them to much more. In this book, Rosaria Butterfield invites readers into her home and shows from her own life and experience how “radically ordinary hospitality” can be a bridge for bringing the gospel to lost friends and neighbors-something that she experienced herself on her journey to Christ. Such hospitality welcomes those who look, think, believe, and act differently than us into our own everyday, sometimes messy lives. Christians will be inspired and equipped to use their homes and tables as a way of showing a skeptical, unbelieving world what love and authentic faith really look like.

And if those consequences trouble you, Authentic Lives suggests ways to minimize them in traditional organizations and also suggests other options for service altogether. • I Just Saw Jesus

    $17.99

This miraculous story reveals how JESUS began as one man’s vision and became a record-breaking film shown more than 9 billion times and convincing millions to follow Christ.

Volunteer film teams, missionaries, and pastors risk their lives daily, showing the film in remote tribes and villages, among religions that strictly prohibit Christianity, and even to the world’s most elite and powerful leaders. They have overcome threats, witches’ curses, and deadly diseases. The teams carry compact generators and portable projectors, often traveling by foot or horseback, bush plane or canoe. Their pure, unbridled joy comes from sharing JESUS with those who have not yet seen and heard the gospel.

Brian Deacon, the actor who portrays Jesus, speaks only words taken directly from the Gospel of Luke. As biblically accurate as possible, the JESUS film is taking Jesus to the world’s men, women, and children in their own heart language. Translated into more than 1,400 languages, with more planned, this film is changing the world. JESUS is being seen and heard, and His words are proving as powerful today as they were 2,000 years ago.

The story behind the film that:
Has been seen more than 9 billion times.

  • Everyone Belongs To God

    $12.00

How can Christians represent the love of Christ to their neighbors (let alone people in foreign countries) in an age when Christianity has earned a bad name from centuries of intolerance and cultural imperialism? Is it enough to love and serve them? Can you win their trust without becoming one of them? Can you be a missional Christian without a church? This provocative book, based on a recently uncovered collection of 100-year-old letters from a famous pastor to his nephew, a missionary in China, will upend pretty much everyone’s assumptions about what it means to give witness to Christ. Blumhardt challenges us to find something of God in every person, to befriend people and lead them to faith without expecting them to become like us, and to discover where Christ is already at work in the world. This is truly good news: No one on the planet is outside the love of God. At a time when Christian mission has too often been reduced to social work or proselytism, this book invites us to reclaim the heart of Jesus’ great commission, quietly but confidently incarnating the love of Christ and trusting him to do the rest.
